What's a good way to make a tuner for drums / chimes?

I'm currently composing an Octet using drums, but the tuner I'm using is fairly inefficient. It's basically a bunch of quarter notes to make sure the drums are beating in tune, but it's long, isn't always accurate, and you have to pay attention to make sure it's in tune because it's not obvious if it isn't. Does anyone know a possibly better way to tune a drum?

It's unfortunate, but I believe that's the only way to tune a drum actually.

​Doesn't work considering the fact that an off tune percussion instrument doesn't work the same way as an off tune normal instrument. Off tune percussion just plays off beat, doesn't play the wrong notes.

my bad advice is try 16th notes for the tunner instead of 1/4? should be a bit easier to hear any mistakes.
