Welcome to the new Musical Nexus Website!
Hi All, Welcome to the first major update to the Musical Nexus website in 5 years-ish. I completely re-wrote the website from scratch this time around so it could accomodate all the features we need.. As many of you know previously we were on the Invision Power Board community software (Forum software) and while it served us pretty well overall, it was expensive (yearly paid license for updates) and it was becoming more difficult to modify due to it being within the bounds of their framework. Finally after mustering enough motivation I decided to develop a new version of the website from scratch that automates generally everything that required manual work before. The submission forms have been upgraded to be easier to use, but aside from that I have added a lot more options to give you more choices in how you display your song submissions. I also added auto-processing on the server, so once you submit a song, the server analyzes it and fills in all the fields for you. We now support submitting songs via .MNE files (Musical Nexus Editor), .MMI (Mabiicco editor), .MML (3MLE Editor) and of course we still support manual code input blocks as well (for Mabinogi). Now that the server processes everything manual intervention from approving staff is no longer required, we no longer have to use additional outside tools to generate or verify files and attach to the submissions. The server does it all and reports back to the moderation queue, it is now as simple as an approve or reject button for all game databases. Our visualizer has also been upgraded to include a proper piano roll, as well as better seek capabilities, better soundfont management and it also supports showing measure numbers. It will also auto adapt to time signature changes, and tempo changes. Because of this automation we no longer limit how many songs you can submit at once, and the amount of parts you can submit has been upgraded to 16 for Mabinogi since this is technically possible in the game. We have re-processed all 9000+ submissions on the website through this new automated analyzer system and so all pages are now upgraded and in the same format. No longer is the website split between 4 different format changes from across the years. Also, in addition to MML clipboard copy we now show (on all songs) project file downloads for .MNE, .MMI, .MML and .Midi files as well. We are currently testing MusicXML files as well for notation software. Some of you with astute eyes may notice that your reputation number is different, the formula is different for the new website and it was recalculated based on your song submissions, comments and reacts. Forum related posts and information was not migrated (as the forum has been in archive mode for years anyways) and so it may look slightly different based on that as well. Aside from that we now support a "My Library" view which will show you all songs you have across all game libraries on the website, it will show their visibility status, mod approval status, and more. You can edit all your songs from one place instead of having to search for them on the website database first. Songs can now be private in your library, unlisted (a link you share), shared with specific members, or public (listed on the database). We have also added a point shop system, you can read about how it works here, and see the general point shop page here. You will also see unlock options within your song submissions when you edit them. Also we created over 40,000 301 canonical redirect links, so any time someone uses an old link from the old website format, or comes here from a search engine listing it will auto-redirect them to the new correct link. So this should reduce frustration from the website upgrade when coming from a search result. Aside from that we also migrated over all comments, reactions, profile information, profile followers, profile views, song submission views and reacts, song submission fields and author comments, and more. If you find something missing that you would expect to have been migrated let me know in Discord and I will take a look. We will be keeping a live backup copy of the old website around for a bit in case we need to convert data from it that was missed. I will probably create separate information posts for some upcoming features or releases like the Musical Nexus Editor, or visualizer embedding, our upcoming Discord bot, and more so be on the look out for these separate posts as this post is already overloaded. Also coming soon we will be adding the game Black Desert support to the Musical Nexus Editor and our website as a new game database as I have managed to decipher the encryption block on the song files and reverse map how the notes and such are assigned. Our editor and website will handle decrypting and re-encrypting the files for usage with the game. Aside from that we will also finally add support for FFXIV as well. Other games are to be determined as we go. Mabinogi Mobile will be added when I have personally been able to get more information about how its composing system works.
